This
20+ mile cave (Thunder River, Carroll River and innumerable
side passages) has only one known natural entrance (Carroll
River entrance) which has been off limits per land owner
request for 15+ years. Even with permission,
exploration of the Thunder River system would require
traversing sensitive biological and geological areas near
the Carroll entrance. This is why we want to open a
new entrance into the T-junction (the headwaters of the
Carroll River). We believe we have the technology,
skills and manpower to undertake the study of this massive
cave system. This information will help to understand
and preserve. (Fact: While Thunder River has
been dye-traced to Toronto Springs it only accounts for 20%
of the springs discharge.) Carroll Cave Conservancy is dedicated to the conservation and perpetual protection of the Toronto Springs watershed including Carroll Cave (aka Traw Cave & Thunder River), Camden County, Missouri, USA. Meetings and dig trips are announced in advance on this website. Minutes, reports, pictures, map data and by-laws are archived here for public access (copyright laws apply).
