Safety policy
All persons entering Carroll Cave accept responsibility for their personal safety and enter the cave at their own risk. Entrants will have a signed waiver of liability on file with CCC before being allowed access. Entrants will sign their names to a sheet provided in the silo along with the times of entry and exit. Entrants will use the safety belay system established by the trip leader for entering and exiting the cave. No one is to use the ladder without a belay system. Each participant must have the proper personal gear (harness, carabiners, ascenders, etc.) for the belay system.
Each person traveling in the cave must be equipped with a UIAA approved helmet with mounted light source; three light sources capable of being helmet-mounted; clothing and personal equipment necessary for the scheduled work and length of trip; food and drinking water appropriate for length of trip; adequate containers to transport all personal equipment, including any waste generated, into and out of the cave.
The group size shall be no less than 4 and no more than 8 participants including the trip leader. In the cave, smaller groups than 4 are allowable if there are more people in nearby areas who can be used as a resource in case of emergency and if such contigencies are discussed in advance.
Each person must be physically able to meet the challenges of the cave trip. The Trip Leader can cancel or abort a trip where he/she determines the safety of the group is at risk.
