I made three trips into Carroll cave between 1965 and 1983 as a member of KCAG. The last trip was a photo expedition with Andy Kramer which lasted three days.

I'm a retired caver. Back in 1971, I arrived at the old gated entrance to the cave along with about one dozen other cavers from various places. I took a boat and was planning on spending the weekend underground. However, one of the members of the grotto from Eldon was supposed to have obtained the gate key, but failed to do so. That was my only opportunity to see Carroll Cave. I've followed the new exploration with great interest, and am curious as to whether you have explored (not mapped) all leads, and if you have some estimation of the length of the cave. Thanks!

Just got home and had to see this web site. I am with Mid Co Fire Dept and about 6 of us went into the cave today (7/27/03). I really enjoyed the tour. I have always wanted to visit this cave since I was a kid (Like back in the late 70's). Wanted to say thank you to all the professionals who made this expence possible. Hope to make it back into the cave in the future. My son and daughter will be down to visit in the future, and would LOVE to give them this experience. If there is a point of contact for a future - that would be great! AGAIN THANKS!!!!

I live a few miles from this site. And think maybe we may live on top of part of Carroll's cave. I drive by on my way to work and see the campers that work at the cave at the old sweat school. I think it is really neat what you are doing.

Where is the T Junction entrance located? I live about 2 miles from the T & 7 junction going toward Richland which is about 4-5 miles from the Carroll Cave. My Parents used to live on the land above the cave in the 50's.Their names where Dorl & Millie Carroll. Once when I was around 7-8 my mother took in a little boy who's Mother & Father where going in the cave for the weekend. Something like 8 days later they finaly came back to get the boy. My father has been back for as long as 4-5 days. Just thought you might be interested.

I've lived over this cave all my life and as a child always wondered what was down there and why research hadn't been assumed earlier. I was suprised when Rick Hines asked my Grandpa was invited to tour the cave and speechless when he refused. I butted in and luckly got to tour the cave and was amazed by it's beauty. It was everything I thought it would be and more. I was amazed at the kindness and acceptance by the crue. That one tour made me want to come back for more.

I went into Carroll a number of times as a member of KCAG in 1974 through 1978. On one memorable snowy winter trip with 4" entrance airspace, our caverals froze and we couldn't get the zippers open to get keys to our camper/stove, we had real worries of hypothermia. Thunder Falls is a favorite place. The Kansas City City Limit road sign was there when I first went in and the KCAG politics were to leave it in place. "Pre-Survey" was in order. Andy Kramer gave me one of his home made carabiners back then. I read with interest your shaft sinking. I miss the Missouri underground and would like to invite myself back into Carroll for more adventure.

Hi Dan Newman here. I have been in Carrol many times, but all have been upper Thunder River. Any word other than rumor of pushing past the breakdown? And any promise in DL7?

Thanks

Carpe Diem!!! Congrats to Rick and the gang! It's nice to see this project result in such success. From the early rantings and monologues that poured forth from Rick at KCAG Christmas parties to a hole plunging deep into Missouri cold stone, a thundering giant has awaken. Now, it is time to unveil the Queen of all Caves, Carroll.

Your survey plan is nothing but genious. May the passages me borehole, the breeze at your face, and your carbide dry - REJOICE!

Congratulations on an awesome dig! Great website too.

I was a member of SEMO when I was in college in St Louis in the early 80's and went caving with Joel Laws and Scott House a lot.

I go on dig trips almost every weekend. In the early 90's my crew and I blasted open a crawl in 500' long Blue Springs cave in Tennessee that has led to about 34 miles of mostly fossil passage and is still going.

Very interesting drainage divide on the Carroll map.

Good caving!

Joel Buckner
