Purpose:

Collect Water Samples and Survey

Details:

After entering the cave, Bill and I went to Thunder River and the Angel Pool to collect water samples.  Upon returning from the Angel Pool, we met up with the others and proceeded upstream to UL-2.  We noticed the water was low.  About 200 feet from UL-2, I heard a yell and from Pat.  I turned around to see him sitting down and holding his ankle.  Oh no! Pat had stepped on a rock in the stream and it had rolled under his foot, twisting his ankle.  After a few minutes Pat decided that he wanted to continue onward.  We let him know that it would not hurt any of our feelings to exit the cave now but he insisted that he was OK.  We proceeded to Conference Hall and broke into two teams.  Mike led a team into the right hand loop while Tony, Dan, and I went to the North East Passage.  After several hundred feet of very muddy survey we were ready to head back to Conference Hall.  It was getting close to out meet time for dinner and I figured Mike's leads were running out.  I entered the room where our extra gear was and had just sat down when Mike's light started shining into the room.  Mike had finished one lead and had found another.  Mike also said they were planning on heading out since Pat foot was starting to hurt some.  I was having trouble keeping my book clean so we all decided to eat some grub and boogie out.  The exit was fairly uneventful.  Pat walked and exited under his own power and complained the next day his foot was just a little sore.  The only thing odd about the trip was climbing out the shaft and being greeted by daylight.  That was something most of us had not experienced at Carroll.
