Carroll Cave Conservancy

Restoration / Conservation Task List

To all Trip Leaders and Project Leaders using this task list. Whatever site you may be working in, Restoration, Survey, Biology, or Geology, if at all possible, inspect the area for any problems which may be in need of Restoration work, or attention to possible Conservation issues. When leaving the cave, take a few minutes and fill out one of the Site and Inventory report forms located within the In/Out box at the new entrance. Their are self addressed envelopes attached to each form. You can either mail the form to the Project Manager or return to the IN / Out box to be retrieved at a later date. Also, the Site and Inventory report form has been merged with the Trip report form located at the CCC web site under the heading of Blank Forms. Having the forms at the new entrance and on the trip reports at the web site gives us an expanded method for collecting information on Restoration / Conservation issues, and the overall conditions throughout the cave.

This will help establish a database for tracking all ongoing projects and allow us to create a history of the restoration and Conservation of the cave.  Some of these projects will be in remote areas of the cave and will require extended stays , two to three days. Some of the projects and tasks  will require special training or instruction to ensure the work is done correctly. Because of the distances involved, the extent of restoration, and the time required to reach these areas, one day trips will produce little or no significant results. These trips will require advanced planning and commitment by our more dedicated members.  All CCC participants will be notified when these projects become available.

I have structured this task list by dividing the cave into sections that I refer to as Restoration / Conservation Site Areas. The purpose of this is to track and record information on current and future ongoing Restoration / Conservation projects and tasks within each site as it occurs.

Special Note: Only the areas of the cave on the task list that are not marked with a double XX are currently scheduled for Restoration and or Conservation projects at this time. All other areas on this task list need to be inventoried and evaluated for possible future projects. There are also other areas of the cave that will be closed at different times during the year for other considerations. Notification of closed areas of the cave will be posted as needed. Information as to the condition of these areas must be evaluated before projects and tasks can be developed. Any project or task on this list that has been marked with a ( C ) has been completed.  All CCC participants are welcome and encouraged to participate.

Special Note: This projects and task list covers only  those areas of the cave that have been officially mapped. A Biology base line inventory needs to be conducted through out these areas preceding any major Restoration work, ie: trail building, Speleothem cleaning and repair. This includes most of the main trunk sections and those side passages that have been surveyed to date.

Here is our list of projects and tasks at this time.  More will be added as the project grows.
