May 3, 2003 Concrete Pad Pour and completed Airlocks!

Well !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The concrete lid over the Carroll Cave back door is completed.  With the help of my ever faithful side kick Matt Goska and Randy Bruegger we beat it into submission on Saturday May 3, 2003.  The pour took 12 yards of 4inch slump six bag concrete.  This should yield a product that will outlive us all.  Matt and Randy really jumped in and figured out what needed to be done.  We finished stripping the forms and sprayed the concrete with cure and seal about 5:00 p.m., cleaned up all of the debris and headed for Diggers for a good party.

In addition to pouring the concrete, we also stabilized the road.

There is some work remaining.  This includes tearing out the shoring in the mezzanine and shoveling about 20 tons of rock.  If anyone would like to help with this, we will be at the site at 9:30 next Saturday morning.  Hopefully we will have another beautiful day to finish this up.  If you can come bring a shovel or a rake.

Attached are photos of the work from last weekend.  If I have done them correctly there are four of the new concrete pad and two of the road looking up the hill.

Please be advised that care still needs to be used when driving up the road.  Low cars and two wheel drive pickup trucks  may either drag in the rock or spin during wet weather once they begin up the long portion of the hill.  I would suggest that for the time being, if you only have an automobile ride up the hill in someone's truck.

Please be aware that the shoring in the mezzanine makes access to the shaft difficult at best.  If you are planning a trip into the cave it is my suggestion that you allow us an opportunity to remove the shoring first.  Weather permitting, the shoring will be removed the 10th of May.
